It is a temple of learning established in 1987 with a vision to create a system that binds everyone and brings transformation in the quality of students' lives by the great visionaries of Mahalingpur. The institution was earlier run by the local Society by name SCVV Trust. The name was SCVV Trust Fund's SCP Arts and Commerce College. Dr. D. D. Shirol, a leading physician of Mahalingpur has donated a handsome amount of money to the Society and then the Commerce stream was named after him and the name of the College was changed to SCVV Trust Fund's SCP Arts and DDS Commerce College. In the year 2008, Our College was merged with KLE Society.
Since then we are in the KLE family. The College grew from strength to strength and various subjects have been introduced to cater to the educational needs of learners of the region. To cater to the needs of the economically and socially disadvantaged rural youth of our hinterland and on the demand from the parents, we have submitted proposal for starting PG courses in English and Commerce this year to our affiliating University. The Campus is spread over an area of 11 acres. It is an amalgamation of modern infrastructure with stylish, classic and modern architecture which makes the setting perfect for a free mind to absorb knowledge. Our College has been imparting quality education to the rural youth in Arts, Commerce and Science streams. We are proud that this year (2016-17) we have introduced B.Sc. programme also. The main building has 21 class rooms, staff common room, room for lady students, office unit, NSS unit, Healthcare Unit and Youth Red Cross Wing. The College has 05 well equipped labs. Adjacent to the main building the Library and Gymkhana are located in separate buildings in the campus. The College has provided a separate building for Canteen. The girls have separate hostel facility. The library has more than 23,000 volumes on its shelves with well ventilated separate reading room for students and staff. There are halls for indoor games and cultural activities. These sports and cultural facilities and the spacious pretty well developed common play field meet the needs of sport persons and athletes. Our College has the faculty with excellent credentials, working relentlessly to enhance the skills of students.
Every teacher has got a deep concern for all-round development of students' personality. The College has been endeavoring to upgrade the rural talent to the urban competency level. All of our teachers are research oriented. The college is actively involved in research and extension activities. During the last five years, 06 MRPs have been completed and 02 are about to be completed. Among the staff members there are 08 doctorates, 07 M.Phil degree holders and 01 is pursuing his Ph.D. programme. We have a teacher-student ratio of 1:28. Lady students constitute about 49.32 percent of our College enrollment. More than 75 percent of our students are from village based peasant families and economically backward classes, to whom we have been imparting knowledge with modern technologies, soft skills and communication skills apart from knowledge prescribed by the curricula. Our students are performing excellently in cultural and sports arena also. During the preceding four years, our students have bagged once 'General Championship' in zonal youth festival of our affiliating University. Our institution has conducted University Zonal level youth festival once and a State Level Cultural Fest-2016 in the post accreditation period. The College has produced 25 Blues, Team Championships for 08 times, secured 26 places at University level events, Team Runners up for 09 times and conducted 05 tournaments during the said period. The College was granted permanent affiliation on 25th August 2000 by Karnatak University, Dharwad. Now the College is affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi as a result of carving out of a new University from Karnatak University's jurisdiction. The College has recognition of UGC and is included in the list maintained under 2(f) and eligible to receive central grants under 12(B) of UGC Act, 1956. At present our College has the total strength of 734 students with 26 faculty members. To make our students competent to face the competitive world, two short duration certificate courses were started as add-on skill oriented courses in 2012-13. From 2016-17 we have started 04 more short duration value edition certificate courses. In the year 2011 during the second cycle of accreditation, the institution was re-accredited by NAAC at 'B' level with CGPA of 2.76 in the jurisdiction of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. The institution is eager to welcome the NAAC peer team for the third cycle of accreditation. During the last five years we have striven hard to achieve our vision. The institution's all efforts are directed to achieve competence and creativity among students and teachers, through innovations in teaching-learning, research and extension activities, women empowerment, optimum use of human resources and infrastructural facilities. It ensures active participation of all the stakeholders in all the processes of the College.
